Update on the Liverpool Spirit Appeal: Support for Those Affected Following the May 26th Incident

The Community Foundation for Merseyside, in partnership with Liverpool Charity & Voluntary Services (LCVS) and endorsed by Liverpool City Council, launched the Liverpool Spirit Appeal in response to the tragic incident that took place following the Liverpool FC parade on 26th May 2025.

We have been moved by the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organisations across the region and beyond who have donated to support those directly impacted.

The appeal is being coordinated in partnership with trusted organisations including the National Emergencies Trust, the Fundraising Regulator and the Charity Commission.

We want to provide a clear update for those affected, the distribution of funds to individuals has not yet begun but is imminent.

In the first phase, funds will prioritise:

  • Individuals who were admitted to hospital or received medical treatment as a direct result of the events on 26th May 2025.

Accessing Support

If you were admitted to hospital or received medical treatment at the scene due to injuries sustained, please follow this process to access support:

  • Notify Merseyside Police (if you have not already done so) and connect with a Victim Care Coordinator.
  • Your Victim Care Coordinator will provide you with an application form and guidance notes, which have been developed by the Community Foundation for Merseyside.
  • Complete the application form and return it as instructed. Your completed form will be submitted to the Community Foundation for Merseyside for a decision on the charitable gift.

We kindly ask that individuals do not contact the Community Foundation for Merseyside directly about individual financial support, as all application form must be provided by the Victim Care Coordinators at Merseyside Police.

A second phase of the appeal will support local community organisations delivering vital services in response to the incident.

This may include:

  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing support
  • Projects that promote community resilience

We will continue to provide updates as the appeal progresses. The Liverpool Spirit Appeal reflects the strength and solidarity of our city and its people. We are committed to ensuring that all funds raised are distributed responsibly and with compassion.

A variety of free resources are available for supporters to access to care for their mental health.
