Trustees’ Week 2025: Celebrating the Leaders Behind Local Giving
Trustees play an essential role in the charitable sector. In the UK, there are more than 950,000 registered trustees—often senior professionals, well-connected leaders, or individuals with unique insights into community needs. Collectively, their time, expertise, and commitment make an extraordinary difference.
In Merseyside alone, trustees contribute an estimated £913 million in value each year (Volunteer Centre Camden, 2023).
Without their leadership and dedication, the charitable sector could not exist. Trustees carry the ultimate responsibility for ensuring charities serve their purpose, act responsibly, and deliver positive change.
At the Community Foundation for Merseyside, we have been fortunate to benefit from the insight and generosity of many outstanding trustees. We are deeply grateful to both our current and former Board members for the time, energy, and expertise they have given.
This Trustees’ Week, we also celebrate the newest additions to our Board, Ram Gupta BCAe BEM and Philip Rooney, who share what inspired them to join us:
“I have been involved with CFLM for over 15 years, and I have seen firsthand the immense benefit that supporting local community groups can bring. I never cease to be impressed by the ‘social return’ generated by the commitment and resourcefulness of volunteers passionate about improving the wellbeing of their communities.”
Philip Rooney
“I’ve always believed in giving back to the communities that have shaped me. Living and working in this region, I’ve seen both the challenges people face and the incredible strength and potential within our local communities. CFLM’s work stood out to me because it directly supports the people and projects that need it most, making a real difference on the ground.”

We thank all trustees, past and present for their dedication that keeps charities, and our communities, moving forward.
