Reflecting on 2025/26: Our Funding Distributed in Merseyside

As we move further into this financial year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the impact of our funding across Lancashire and Merseyside. Over the past year, we awarded £3,596,204 through 714 grants, supporting projects that have helped more than 150,000 people in our communities.

Throughout the year, we have continued to manage established funds while also building new partnerships to expand our reach. These collaborations have created more opportunities for grassroots organisations to access vital funding, strengthening Merseyside’s voluntary and community sector.

Building New Partnerships

A key highlight has been the launch of several new funding partnerships. The 1892 Foundation, established by MHA Accountants, focuses on improving financial literacy among young people under 25. Supporting projects that develop money management skills, financial awareness and career readiness.

Our festive partnership with the Lapland Foundation brought seasonal support to communities across the region. Together, we distributed 500 Christmas stockings and provided grants to 10 organisations hosting celebrations for young carers, families in crisis and others facing disadvantage, spreading joy at a critical time of year.

We provided support for young entrepreneurs through the SWEF Enterprise Fund, helping individuals aged 18–30 take their business ideas to the next level. By funding essential equipment, training and development, this programme enables young people, particularly those not in education or employment, to build sustainable futures.

Transformational Funding

The first round of the Pilkington Charities Fund marked a significant milestone following the £28 million transfer into our management, the largest in UK Community Foundation history. This round alone distributed over £975,000 to 54 projects, supporting nearly 60,000 people. The scale of demand, with 224 applications submitted, highlighted both the need for and impact of this investment.

Responding in Times of Need

The year also reminded us of the importance of coordinated community response. Following the parade incident in Liverpool on 26 May, the Liverpool Spirit Appeal was established to support those affected. Working alongside key partners, we ensured funds were raised and distributed quickly, fairly and transparently, providing immediate financial relief and longer-term support for recovery.

“We have distributed over £3.5 million this year, supporting thousands of people across our communities. The strength of new partnerships has been key to this impact, and we’re equally grateful to our longstanding donors whose continued support makes this work possible.”
