Breaking Barriers: Autism-Friendly Healthcare in Liverpool

At the Community Foundation for Merseyside, we are proud to support initiatives that create inclusive and accessible services for people living with autism. One such project is Autism Adventures Training, which has made a meaningful impact in Liverpool by providing essential healthcare and support in an autism-friendly environment.

Breaking Barriers in Healthcare Access

Accessing healthcare can be challenging for people with autism due to sensory sensitivities, anxiety, and communication barriers. Recognising this, Autism Adventures Training, launched pop-up clinics designed to offer medical and mental health support in a space tailored to the needs of autistic individuals.

“We love the sessions; the boys and I are making friends. We love coming and look forward to more stuff with you”.

Delivered by staff trained in autism awareness, these clinics provided services such as blood pressure checks, vaccine information updates, mental health support, and healthy lifestyle guidance.

Working in partnership with the Margaret Thompson Medical Centre, the project ensured that individuals with autism, both diagnosed and awaiting diagnosis, could receive care in a setting that minimised stress and sensory overload.
