Football for Change Visit Mandela8

Our CEO, Rae Brooke and Development Director, Karen Morris spent the afternoon at Mandela8 with donors Football for Change and their ambassador Jamie Carragher, hearing first-hand about the incredible impact of the Roots and Wings Programme, which has been awarded £95,000 through this year’s grants programme.

Meanwhile, Conor Coady and other Football for Change ambassadors visited charities supported by the fund in Manchester to see vital services in action and listen to the stories of those whose lives are being changed.

The Roots and Wings Programme, delivered across Liverpool, is a 12-week restorative justice initiative supporting young people with behavioural challenges who are at risk of, or have been excluded from, mainstream education. The programme helps young people:

  • Understand the consequences of their actions
  • Build resilience against peer pressure and exploitation
  • Explore healthy relationships and mental wellbeing
  • Gain AQA qualifications and access mentoring, apprenticeships, and work experience opportunities

Over the next three years, the programme will run across Liverpool – one cohort in 2024, two in 2025, and two more in 2026. Plans are also underway for an international educational trip to Cape Town, South Africa, in collaboration with the Mandela family.

This grant will help transform young lives, empowering the next generation to become confident, responsible young leaders of the future.

A huge thank you to Football For Change, their ambassadors, and everyone helping to make this impact possible.
