Meet our latest trustee: Philip Rooney

We’re delighted to welcome to our board, Philip Rooney.

Philip has been involved with the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside (CFLM) for over 15 years, first as a contributor to the Merseyside Community Investment Fund, then as a supporter of the Philanthropy Fellowship and as a member of the grant making panel for the MCIF.

Until his retirement in 2023, Philip practised as a solicitor specialising in commercial real estate. His career at DLA Piper, included leading the UK real estate practice for six years and managing the Liverpool Office for another nine years.

He also brings a wealth of trustee and leadership experience, having served as trustee of the DLA Piper Charitable Trust for 25 years, Director of Liverpool Law Society for more than 20 years, and Chair of Professional Liverpool for six years.

Philip joins our Board with a unique skillset to guide strategy and provide leadership, ensuring we continue to best serve the communities of Lancashire and Merseyside.

“I have seen the immense benefit that supporting local community groups can bring; I never cease to be impressed by the “social return” generated by the commitment and resourcefulness of volunteers passionate about improving the wellbeing of their communities. In my role as trustee, I hope I will be able to contribute to the continuing success of CFLM in promoting the importance of community philanthropy and investing in local communities.”
