Merseyside charities to benefit from community safety programme

Charities and community groups are being encouraged to apply for funding to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work. The High Sheriff and Merseyside Police Charitable Fund is encouraging charities to apply for funding to promote community safety.

Grants up to £2,500 are available, priority will be given to projects that focus on the advancement of education and increasing the provision of diversionary activities and facilities for young people.

In addition to the completed application applicants should provide a letter of support for the project, ideally from a PCSO (Police Community Support Officer), traffic community support officer or similar referee. 

Grants are available to fund:

• To promote a safer and increased quality of life through the prevention of crime and the protection of people and property from criminal acts for the benefit of the public in and around Merseyside.
• To secure the advancement of education for the public benefit in all matters relating to community safety.
• To increase provision of diversionary activities and facilities that target young people to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Previous grantees include a local charity, UC Crew, who received funding for an ‘Off the Streets’ project. The project delivered Break Dance & Parkour (Free Running) workshops for children and young people across St. Helens.  The activities were a great alternative for young people who aren't engaged in sports but still feel the adrenaline from being engaged in positive activities, thereby reducing the likelihood of them getting involved in anti-social behaviour.
